Students who complete an AP class (considered to be rigorous, college-level classes in high school are not required to take an AP exam. If they take the exam and do well, a college may choose to grant either college credit or “advanced standing.” If a college grants credit (usually requires a score of at least 3 or more out of 5) then a student could theoretically finish college in less than 4 years and save money, but few colleges grant credit. More colleges might grant “advanced standing” which will let the student place out of an entry level course (for example, “101 English”) and start at a 200 level course in college.

This is a legal document that describes the special education that the school is required to provide the student with a disability so that the student can learn the academic materials taught. Students with an IEP receiving special education will also often have accommodations (such as longer testing time, seating close to the teacher, etc.)
PSAT (preliminary SAT) is a practice version of the SAT for students to experience the test ahead of time. Scores on the PSAT are not seen by colleges, but may qualify students for scholarships. (example, National Merit Scholarship Program) or the National Honor Society (a nationwide organization). There is an English and math section of the SAT with 800 being a full score for each section. Scores over 750 are generally considered competitive for highly selective colleges. Typically students take the PSAT in the fall of 11th grade. CRLS will usually offer this test for free to students.
SAT stands for scholastic aptitude test. It is a standardized test run by the College Board and it is often required for applying to colleges in the US. Full score in math is 800, and full score in English is 800 for a maximum score of 1600. (NOTE: The ACT is equivalent to the SAT for college applications and students only need to take one. The ACT is taken mostly in the Western part of the US.)
Every school in Massachusetts must have a school composed of peer-elected representatives with an equal number of parent/caregiver representatives and staff representatives. The principal and one parent representative are co-chairs of the council. The School Council advises the principal on the school improvement plan (SIP). See info about the CRLS School Council.
Every school in Massachusetts must have a school improvement plan. In Cambridge, each school is allocated a certain amount of money to be used to implement the school improvement plan, which is created by the school principal who is advised by the School Council.
